Info on Tenerife
Cancun's resort zone offers little in the way of true sightseeing. Because it was "born" only 26 years ago, attractions center around the island's radiant beaches, posh shopping malls, and abundant water sports. Most cultural/ historic sightseeing attractions lie outside Cancun proper, and are accessed through a wide offering of half- and full-day excursions.
Overview of Tenerife

Cancun Island is approximately 16 miles long with the highest point above sea level being 200 feet. The State of Quintana Roo is located 550 miles south of Miami, in the South-eastern part of Mexico. Along the coastline of about 540 miles, there are numerous coral islands and a reef barrier, the second largest in the world.

Relax: If you are searching for calm, peaceful days to enjoy the sun and the sand, Cancun boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Did You Know?... Some of the most amazing Mayan ruins are located in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.

Scuba Diving: Cancun is a snorkel and scuba diving paradise, the lagoon enclosed by the -L- shape of the island, is ideal for sailing and water-skiing.

Deep-sea fishing and diving: Fantastic in the open sea, which stretches out in shades of light-green to turquoise from the shoreline to the violet-blue horizon.

Ruins: There are Mayan ruins just past Playa Garrafon but Hurricane Gilbert nearly finished them off.

Did You Know?... Cancun means the “Nest of Serpents” in the Mayan language.

Beaches: Distributed along Cancun’s shores. Some edge the tranquil waters of Mujeres Bay while others face the open Caribbean Sea. Special precautions should be taken on the open ocean-side beaches when the sea is rough and, in general, visitors should always pay attention to the warning flags posted in front of each hotel: green or blue indicates calm seas, yellow, precaution and red or black, danger.

Nautilus Dive Training Center, Cancun: Learn scuba diving in a pool here before venturing out into the open ocean.

Spa del Mar, Cancun: A real treat for the senses awaits you at this comprehensive spa with your choice of pampering, including the waterfall whirlpool, steam and inhalation rooms, Jacuzzis, hydrotherapy, facials, massages and more.

Boat Trips: Boat trips to the nearby islands of Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and Contoy are popular and easy to do.

Did You Know?... The city of Cancun is divided into “supermanzanas", large residential and commercial areas with walkways and gardens. The city’s main streets and avenues are named after Mayan cities (Tulum, Bonampak, Yaxchilan, Xel-HA and Uxmal), while side streets bear the names of fish, flowers, fruit and animals.

Cylcists: There is a 16-kilometer (10 mile) bicycle path running between Bahia de Mujeres and the boulevard so those on foot or bicycle can enjoy views of the hotels, gardens and parks, and glimpses of the beautiful Caribbean Sea.

WARNING: Do not accept torn or damaged pesos bills. Mexican currency, damaged in any way will not be accepted by any merchants, money exchanges or banks. If somebody offers you a damaged bill, refuse to accept it.
